About this deal

In 1929, Netta Fornario came to the small Scottish island of Iona for a break from the hectic pace of London city life. During the Crowley's Hazard invasion of the United Kingdom, Fornario was among the reproduced members of the Golden Dawn who confronted Aleister Crowley in the graveyard of Westminster Abbey. A further examination of the body did not provide any more answers and the coroner was not able to ascertain just how or when she had died, finally settling on the explanation that she must have died of a combination of exhaustion, heart failure, and hypothermia considering the frigid temperatures and the fact that she had not been dressed for the cold.

The family she was staying with said she would go into trance-like states, always seemed to have a distant look in her eyes and would sometimes speak in incoherent ramblings. Fortune would be expelled by Mathers in 1926, but by then she had already formed her own group, The Fraternity of the Inner Light. Scottish author and psychic investigator, Ron Halliday, believed that Netta really had been in contact with other worlds. Neither of which could account for mysterious deep scratches on Netta’s body and on the bottoms of her feet. The Gothic tale of magic, madness, murder and mystery is a stylish production inspired by true events on the Isle of Iona.

It was later found that Netta had packed a ton (not literally) of luggage, so was seemingly planning to stay for quite a while. This week Emma brings us the mysterious story of Netta Fornario, who was found dead on the isle of Iona in November 1929. Emma tells us of the speculation around a cleansing ritual gone wrong and also of marks on the body that may suggest a more sinister end. The Scotsman, 27th November 1929, said - “This “alien” woman, who dressed in the fashion of the Arts and Crafts movement – with a long cape and hand-woven tunic – settled into the house of someone only known as Mrs MacRae.

After arriving on the tiny island (about 4 square miles), she sought lodgings with a local woman by the name of Mrs. net/2013/02/27/the-mostly-lost-writings-of-netta-fornariomac-tylermarie-fornario/ https://viewfromthebighills. What was the reason for her incredibly odd behavior upon reaching Iona and what significance do the mysterious letters found in her room have?

She had noticable scratches and bruises on her feet and, according to some reports(having trouble finding a good source for this) she had several other, deeper gashes spread over her body. As Mathers had been dead for eighteen months she could only have inflicted the scratches from beyond the grave. We see everything through the eyes of Doctor John Tyler as he inserts himself within the tense circle of Ruth and Netta’s relationship.

The play is full of memorable lines (‘If I’m ill I want to be healed, not cured’; ‘Love is possession, but it’s also surrender’) and peppered with marvellously-written spiritualist nonsense. Moriarty was a Freemason who also practiced esoteric and ceremonial magic in the vein of the Theosophy movement, which (oversimplified) is a blend of eastern and western mysticism. Back in 1929 there was just such a case, which involves the trifecta of a strange occultist, a mysterious island, and bizarre clues that have been unsolved to this day.At some point after her death, Netta Fornario was reproduced along with other members of the Golden Dawn by Coronzon, through the application of Tarot-based grimoires, as part of her anti- Crowley countermeasures. She was found lying on Fairy Mound, a hill close to an ancient ruined village, only a couple of miles from where she had been lodging. Trouble is, Crowley was so full of hyperbole, that it’s very hard to separate out fact from fantasy with what he said). Submissions should outline a mystery and provide a link to a more detailed review of the case such as a Wiki article or news report. There was no police investigation, nor was there any advanced pathology performed beyond the limited expertise of the island authorities.
